The organisers of the "Seedbeeds of Transformation: The Role of Science with Society and the SDGs in Africa" conference have announced two calls for interested participants. They are seeking proposals for conference sessions and applications for travel grants for African innovators.

In 2017, Future Earth offered rolling grants to support the travel of early career researchers and other professionals in global sustainability. Here, the  recipients of these grants talk about their backgrounds and next steps. These talented individuals come from Brazil, Kenya, India and other nations around the world and work on topics ranging from snow leopard ecology to gender justice. With support from Future Earth, they traveled to sustainability events across the globe to share their expertise and learn from other leaders in research, policy, business, civil society and more.

Meeting summary: Next steps in global risk research

The Integrated Risk Governance Project (IRG) together with Beijing Normal University co-organised a Scientific Steering Committee (SSC) workshop in Beijing from 7 to 8 December 2018. The event also focused on Beijing Normal University’s “111 Project.” During the workshop, participants discussed recent activities and future directions around research on risk, such as from severe weather events and drought. IRG is a global research project of Future Earth.

Today, Future Earth announced two co-chairs to its new Advisory Committee:  Leena Srivastava, Vice Chancellor of TERI School of Advanced Studies in New Delhi, India, and Johan Rockström, Executive Director of Stockholm Resilience Centre in Sweden.

Future Earth and the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity agree to strengthen collaboration

Today, Future Earth and the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) agreed to strengthen their collaboration around a number of key areas. The two organisations signed the new agreement at the 21st meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical, and Technological Advice (SBSTTA), which runs from 11 to 14 December in Montreal.

Job opening: Coordinator for Odyssée Saint-Laurent

As part of the Odyssée Saint-Laurent research programme, Réseau Québec Maritime is recruiting an employee to operate and coordinate the programme’s activities. The selected candidate will plan, organise, develop and carry out activities to further the mission and objectives adopted by the RQM Executive Committee. This person will also be responsible for the day-to-day management of the programme’s operations, while also coordinating the implementation of the scientific plan in the short and long term.
