Event summary: 46th Plenary Session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)

Representatives from Future Earth recently attended the 46th Plenary Session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). At this event, which ran from 5 to 10 September 2017 in Montreal, Canada, national delegates to IPCC approved chapter outlines for the panel’s Sixth Assessment Report. It is a global assessment of the science related to climate change and is split into sections authored by three working groups:

The partner organisations of “Cities and Climate Change Science Conference: Fostering new scientific knowledge for cities based on science, practice and policy” are pleased to announce a call for proposals for sessions and abstracts. The conference will take place from 5 to 7 March 2018 in Edmonton, Canada (for more info please email info@citiesipcc.org).  In order to ensure vibrant input and discussions at this conference, the partners encourage submissions from scientists, academics, urban practitioners and policy-making communities.

Join the Webinar: Shifting Paradigms

This 90-minute webinar is part of a workshop that explores society’s potential to consider new paradigms in times of crisis. Successfully responding to complex problems such as climate change calls for transformations at an unprecedented rate and scale, and windows of opportunity are rapidly  closing. What role do paradigms play in limiting or accelerating rapid social change? How can alternative paradigms influence research and practice? Karen O’Brien will introduce the topic and make an argument for taking quantum social change seriously.

Future Earth vacancy: Coordination and Administration Officer (Colorado)

Future Earth and its partner the Global Sustainability Scholars Program are seeking a Coordination and Administration Officer to support their logistics, administrative and coordination needs. The position will be based out of Future Earth’s offices in Boulder, Colorado, at the University of Colorado Boulder. The deadline for applications is 2 October.

It was an important period for Future Earth. In the last year, we grew by leaps and bounds – expanding our team and activities and reaching new parts of the globe. We also took part in major sustainability events around the world, from the Habitat III summit in Quito, Ecuador, to the Marrakech Climate Change Conference in Morocco.
