Urban Knowledge-Action Network launches new project on biodiversity and sustainable cities

Future Earth in cooperation with the Convention on Biological Diversity, Stockholm Resilience Centre, SwedBio, The Nature Conservancy (TNC), International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI) and other partners launched the first phase of an ambitious project called “Integrating Nature for Urban Sustainability” in Montreal, Canada, on 26 October.

National Committee launches in Japan

The Future Earth National Committee for Japan launched in Tokyo on 15 September at its inaugural general assembly organised by the Science Council of Japan (SCJ). Members of the Future Earth Japan Consortium, which supports Future Earth’s Global Hub in Tokyo, attended the general assembly. There, they resolved to reorganise the consortium, forming the Japan National Committee.

Post-doc opening (PEGASuS): Basque Centre for Climate Change

The Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3) in Bilbao, Spain, is seeking a one-year postdoctoral researcher to work on a project called Nurturing a Shift towards Equitable Valuation of Nature in the Anthropocene (EQUIVAL). EQUIVAL is one of five projects funded in the first round of the Future Earth Program for Early-stage Grants Advancing Sustainability Science (PEGASuS) – a grants programme that builds research teams that cross disciplines and borders.

This week marked the 2017 Lund Conference on Earth System Governance – an event that brought together researchers, representatives from civil society and activists to delve into “Allocation and Access in a Warming and Increasingly Unequal World.” The conference, which ran from 9 to 11 October in Lund, Sweden, was an annual meeting of Earth System Governance, a global research project of Future Earth.
