Job opening: Coordinator for Odyssée Saint-Laurent

As part of the Odyssée Saint-Laurent research programme, Réseau Québec Maritime is recruiting an employee to operate and coordinate the programme’s activities. The selected candidate will plan, organise, develop and carry out activities to further the mission and objectives adopted by the RQM Executive Committee. This person will also be responsible for the day-to-day management of the programme’s operations, while also coordinating the implementation of the scientific plan in the short and long term.

Workshop for a network on emergent risks and extreme events held in Tokyo

Extreme weather events had a major profile in the news in 2017 – with severe storms and flooding battering parts of the Americas, Caribbean and South Asia. That made a recent workshop that Future Earth hosted at the United Nations University (UNU) in Tokyo especially timely. The event, which took place on 22 November, addressed a newly-developed Knowledge-Action Network focusing on Emergent Risks and Extreme Events.

bioGENESIS holds annual meeting in Montreal

BioGENESIS, a Global Research Project of Future Earth, held the annual meeting of its Steering Committee in Montreal, Canada, from 13 to 15 November 2017. The project explores the implications of evolutionary dynamics for protecting the planet’s biodiversity. It held a symposium on the “Evolutionary Foundations of Biodiversity Science” in the beautiful Redpath Museum of McGill University. The event was hosted by Andrew Hendry of McGill.
