Jon Padgham specializes in science capacity building. He holds a dual appointment with Future Earth and START through which he is developing capacity building collaborations. Jon is currently leading efforts on START-Future Earth joint work on the food-energy-water nexus in Africa.
Prior to joining Future Earth, Jon was the Deputy Director at the International START Secretariat in Washington, DC, where he developed capacity building programs to advance research and policy applications of global environmental change science in Africa and Asia. His work helped strengthen analytical skills for applying climate model projections to adaptation decision-making in Africa and helped advance understanding of climate change adaptation in drylands and of urban food systems in Africa and Asia. Jon was a lead author on the Africa regional chapter of the IPCC 5th Assessment Report and on the International Assessment of Agricultural Knowledge, Science and Technology for Development. Jon holds a PhD in soil science from Cornell University and has conducted research on plant parasitic nematodes in South Asia.
