Louis Lebel

With a PhD in Zoology, Louis is an ecologist, political scientist and geographer who is the Director of the Unit for Social and Environmental Research (USER).

Louis' strong interdisciplinary profile has provided expertise in issues related to understanding the relationships between institutions, the political economy, resilience and adaptation in watersheds, shrimp aquaculture and mangrove systems. Through his applied, transdisciplinary approach, Louis hopes to contribute towards informed social change.

The majority of Louis' work is carried out in Thailand and mainland Southeast Asia, although Louis is also involved in international collaborations addressing global issues. Louis is the lead of AQUADAPT that investigates aquaculture adaptation to climate change in northern Thailand, among other projects.

Before being a member of the ecoSERVICES Scientific Steering Committee, Louis was a member of the founding science committee of the Global Carbon Project and the Earth System Governance Project, two other core projects of Future Earth that aslo transitioned from their global change research programme.
