Ernesto is an agricultural ecologist who assesses the ecological and environmental impact of farming at different scales in order to enhance scientific knowledge on ecosystem functioning and service provisioning.
Ernesto carries out his work in Argentina and South America and is involved in a variety of international collaborations where he addresses global issues. Nowadays he is involved in a non-governmental think-tank named Group of Producing Countries in the Southern Cone of South America that aims at assessing the role of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay in global food security and the global environment. Ernesto also participates in the design of a new Hub of the Sub-Global Assessment Network for Latin America and the Caribbean that operates at the moment under the umbrella of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Bogotá, Colombia.
In addition to being a member of the ecoSERVICES Scientific Steering Committee, Ernesto is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of CONICET and the National Secretary of Science and Technology (SECYT) of Argentina. Ernesto coordinated the Sub-global Assessment for the Pampas of Argentina of the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment. He is also lead author and reviewer to the Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and involved in ecosystem services assessments through the Sub-Global Assessment Network.
