Elena Bennett

Elena is an ecosystem ecologist and geographer, Associate Professor at McGill University.

With a PhD in Limnology and Marine Sciences, Elena’s work focuses on understanding relationships between biogeochemical cycles, agricultural production and ecosystem services. Through her work she hopes to improve landscape management for multiple ecosystem services as well as people's understanding of the process of science through her work.

Elena is currently working on the Montérégie Connection Project in the Montérégie region of Canada which seeks to deepen current understanding of the link between biodiversity and ecosystem services and assist decision makers in the region by providing decision support in order to maintain the biodiversity required for healthy ecosystems.

In addition to being the co-chair of ecoSERVICES Scientific Steering Committee, Elena provides supervision for numerous post-graduate students, co-leads the Future Earth project Bright Spots: Seeds of a Good Anthropocene with the Programme for Ecosystem Change and Society (PECS) and is an active member of the Resilience Alliance. Elena is also Lead Author of Chapter 1: Setting the scene of Deliverable 2(b): Regional/subregional assessments on biodiversity and ecosystem services for Americas of the Work Programme of the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES).
